Why choose to work in CUH?

We were proud to be named top trust in the Midlands and East Anglia by the health research organisation Dr Foster. The award, of which there were only four across the UK, was based on our mortality ratio and patient survey results, and demonstrates that we are one of the safest hospitals in the NHS.

Cambridge University Hospitals (CUH) is one of the largest and best known hospitals in the country. The ‘local’ hospital for our community, CUH is also a leading national centre for specialist treatment; a government-designated comprehensive biomedical research centre; one of only five academic health science centres in the UK, and a university teaching hospital with a worldwide reputation. Building on these different elements, CUH’s vision is to be one of the best academic healthcare organisations in the world.

Our priorities focus on a quality service which is all about people – patients, staff and partners. Our values – kind, safe and excellent – are at the heart of patient care, defining the way we work and behave.

You’ll get training and development in this friendly and dynamic organisation which seeks to innovate and strives for excellence in delivering first-class patient care. You’ll also benefit from childcare facilities, flexible working and a final salary pension scheme. Cambridge is a great place to live with good schools, lots of housing developments, new shopping, sports and leisure facilities … and it’s only 45 minutes away from London.

Staff

Our staff make this hospital what it is. Everyone’s contribution is valued and acknowledged – every single one of our staff has a part in making the team at CUH the best – doctors, porters, nurses, lab technicians, pharmacists, carpenters, healthcare assistants, secretaries … CUH aims to support you in your working life. We have a range of schemes to help you achieve a healthy work-life balance – flexible working, special leave arrangements, elder care, childcare facilities, and holiday play schemes.

Care

We believe that investing in staff development and training not only develops the individual’s personal potential, but helps achieve excellence in patient care. The Trust is committed to providing a range of different programmes for staff to access, depending on their learning preferences and needs. We undertake external development programmes as well as providing a comprehensive range of in-house training through our learning centre. We have also developed an innovative suite of bespoke leadership and management development opportunities designed to support the Trust’s aim of putting the patient and the patient experience at the heart of everything we do.

Facilities

We have modern, purpose-built and well-equipped facilities to work, learn and play with new buildings and facilities being planned and built. In the Frank Lee Centre, we have probably the best sports and social facilities in a UK hospital – just for our staff and right on-site. You can get fit with circuits, relax with some yoga, take a swim, play some snooker … have a drink with friends. Our shopping concourse has a comprehensive range of services: including clothes and gift shops, a supermarket, restaurants and cafes, bank, travel agent, hairdresser, solicitor, etc.
